Muscle Strain in Dogs

muscle strain in dogsMuscle strain in dogs is possible!

Most dogs, especially in their younger years, are very agile and mobile.  So, it’s no surprise then that they are susceptible to muscle strain, just like we, as humans, are.

Strain or Sprain, What’s the Difference?

Strains and Sprains both result in some degree of discomfort in your dog, however they are not the same.  Muscle strains occur in dogs when the tendon joining bones and muscle is stretched too far.  You can expect this to happen with dogs that run around a lot and generally lead very active lifestyles. On the other hand, Sprains occur when ligaments connecting bones are injured in some capacity.  Common sprains in dogs are the result of jumping. [Read more…]

There are a few things you may want to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to change out your pet’s food.

When should I consider changing my dog’s diet?

Food Allergies

It’s not uncommon for dogs to develop food allergies.  In fact, Beef, dairy, wheat and chicken are often at the source of food allergies in dogs.  Allergies in dogs can present themselves in more ways than one.  If you notice your dog experiencing itchy skin or ears, and/or vomiting or diarrhea, you may want to consider switching out his dog food.  At the very least, you will want to have  conversation with your vet about treating the allergy, and then trying to figure out if the allergy correlates with his food or not. Dog Tag, Microchip or Both?

Should I get a dog tag, microchip or both? Picture this, you’re at home going about your business when your cell phone rings. You look at the screen and you don’t have the number of the person calling. After a few seconds of contemplating, you decide to answer the call. “Hello?” you answer   sans enthusiasm. Dental Dog Treats and Chews your Dog Can’t Live Without

Dental Dog TreatsIs your dog an active chewer? I hope so! 1. Know your dog. You might be thinking, “ummmm what?” Keep in mind how your dog most commonly reacts to unusual sights, sounds and pretty much just general unfamiliarity.  If he doesn’t appreciate a disturbance in his routine or any other change of pace for that matter, you might want to leave him home. It must also be noted that dogs will act out of character during times of stress.  A fearful dog can become a danger to himself and other people.  It only takes a moment for a fearful animal to bite a small child. Additionally, if you bring your dog out with you and he displays any signs of distress or anxiety, take him home.  Undue stress may result in health issues, a lost dog or even worse.
