Who doesn’t love a good “tail” about a dog?  Are you a dog lover? Who has not heard of this touching classic?  Tears of laughter and tears of joy will both flow as you read this tale about a couple that adopts a dog thinking it will prepare them parenthood.  Marley breaks the mold of a docile Labrador retriever and his owners love is put the test as his un-leashable energy wrecks havoc in their lives.  Well let me say that once you start this tale you won’t be able to put it down!  No way to put words to this one, just read it and you’ll see how this family came to terms with Marley’s antics!

~ Sophie: The Incredible True Story of the Castaway Dog by Emma Pearse                                    

My goodness.  What pet owner can’t relate to the fear and sadness felt if they were to lose their family pet?  This is the story of an Australian Cattle dog that was lost at sea after a family outing.  This amazing dog fought her way to shore and spent months trying to find her way home.  This book speaks to the unbreakable bond that we have with our pets and vice versa.  MUST READ!

~ A Big Little Life: A Memoir of a Joyful Dog Named Trixie by Dean Koontz

Dean is one of my all time favorite authors.  The fact that he loves his dog Gerda and has deviated from his normal genre to write this touching book makes me love him all the more!  This book is about his beloved pet, Gerda, a retired service dog who renewed his sense of wonder in the world, (among other things) and changed his life forever.

~ The Art of Racing in the Rain: A story told by a dog named Enzo by Garth Stein.

Garth Stein writes a heart wrenching deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope through the eyes of a dog named Enzo.
