There are many books and movies for pet lovers and with the cold weather, snow falling and endless photos on facebook of four legged friends up north romping in the snow, it got us thinking that it just might the perfect time for you to pop in a DVD and watch a movie with the family and your furry pet! Or well, if you’re down here with us in sunny Florida, you just might want to cool off from your afternoon run on the beach with your best canine pal. No matter the occasion, here are a few movies for pet lovers to warm your heart!
Our favorite movies for pet lovers:
Best in Show (2000) This one is hilarious! No tissues needed for this one. A comedy about dog shows and the owners! It is set up to appear as if a crew is following each set of owners and pups and doing a documentary on them from preparing for the trip and event all the way through to the actual dog show!
Because of Winn-Dixie (2005) is a heart breaker of a movie where a “dog changes lonely child’s life”. A feel-good family film that’s enjoyable to watch, especially for children. Ten-year-old Opal adopts a stray dog and names him after the local supermarket where she finds him. The two become constant companions, and the mischievous pooch helps Opal make friends and have adventures all throughout her Florida town. The movie was based on Kate DiCamillo’s children’s book with the same name, and stars Jeff Daniels and Cicely Tyson.
Marley and Me (2008) is based on a best-selling autobiographical book by John Grogan. Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson and Kathleen Turner are the Two Legged Actors who appear in this touching tale of dog ownership that many of us can relate to. Basically a young couple adopts a lab puppy who in turn creates a ton of “chaos” in the family. Some good, some bad and the end will of course break your heart. But it does speak volumes on the variety of emotions we as pet owners feel.
These are a few of the many movies that Pet Lovers can sink their teeth into. These movies will leave you with a new appreciation for your favorite fur friend. We all need a reminder of how completely and utterly in love we are with your canine companions. Grab your tissues, folks.
Winn Dixie sounds heart warming. I’ll be sure to rent it!
