Cats don’t really have nine lives but many cat fanciers wish they did. A cat can bring so much joy into your life. Most have quirky behavior that can keep you amused for hours. Cats are also very clean animals. They spend a good part of their day cleaning themselves. Of course, that is when they are not napping!
While we are on the subject of cats, let’s defuse a few other cat myths.
It is always been said that cats will always land on their feet. True that cats are very agile and can jump up to seven times their height often times landing feet first. Even if landing feet first a cat falling from great heights can be severely injured.
Many think that cats are aloof or sneaky. Though cats can seem aloof they can also be very affectionate, enjoy cuddling and in synch with your moods. The thing with cats is that you have to gain their trust and once you do that you will have a friend for life.
Do you believe that declawing cats is like trimming their nails? Declawing a cat involves the amputation of the last bone of each toe. This is a very painful operation for cats or kittens to go through. Many veterinarians are now refusing to perform this operation. You can always clip your cat’s nails or purchase cat nail caps from softpaws.

My big orange boy, Elvis, knows that he is the king and his sister, Cilla, is a dark haired Tortie beauty who walks with great dignity and loves to have her hair brushed.
My male cat is named Gator & My female is Ruthie. If You don’t see the connection, they are both named after NY Yankees. Gator for Ron Guidry & Ruthie for Babe Ruth. The next one was going to be Thurman, but it was a girl! Couldn’t come up with another Yankee name quick enough, so I called her Valentine. Not a Yankee name, but named in honor of my Husband. Valentine was his middle name.
I have seven cats.
Cookie- Black and white
Boots- Gray and black stripped tabby
Smokey- All gray
Patches- Orange, gray, white
Lillan (Lily) aka Mama Lily( and all various forms)- Organe and white
Dark-one- Black and dark gray tabby
Runtie- Orange tabby
Runtie and Dark-one are Lillian’s kittens. We weren’t planning on keeping any of her litter of four but we only found a home for two of the kittens. We just had nicknames to refer to the kittens. They were Runtie ( even though she was not the runt), Dark-one ( for her colors), Callie (callico cat), and mini-Mater ( their uncle, Lilly’s brother, was an orange tabby just like her and runtie). So that’s how those two ended up with such weird names.
